To be sold on the 1st February 2018 in addition to our fortnightly interior auction.  A private single owner collection formed over 35 years by a retired director of education living on the Wirral.  This exciting and carefully selected collection spans the golden era of packaging and the ingenious marketing of biscuits, sweets and groceries.

The collection covers a period of time from the late Victorian 1880’s through to the 1950’s.  Some of the tins were produced for Huntley Palmers, Keen’s, Lyon’s, W.R. Jacomb and became collector’s items in their own time.  Manufacturers tried to outrun each other for the most ingenious adaptation of a tin, making the contents almost secondary.  Examples in this collection include a Peek Frean’s coconut shy, the much loved Mabel Lucie Attwell fairy money box, William Crawford ocean liner and Oxo spinning top etc.

The sale will be fully illustrated and available online Friday January 26th 2018.
