Overview

Peter Wilson enjoy a very strong following for Northern Art - the umbrella term used to describe the group of 20th century artists who chose as their primary subject matter the urban landscapes of the Northwest. Though our sales are much-imitated, we continue to champion this vibrant market and have achieved record sums for works by both well-known and emerging artists.

Increasingly supported by institutional collections and the promise of catalogue raisonnés, Northern art has proved an excellent investment. Across two decades, prices for artists such as Helen Bradley and William Turner have followed the trajectory of LS Lowry and his contemporaries, while the contemporary take on the genre provided by younger artists such as Peter Stanaway and Liam Spencer has attracted many admirers.
Our seasoned specialist Stephen Sparrow has a deep understanding of the nuances of this market and enjoys a close association with some artists and their estates. Whether you are interested in buying or selling he would be delighted to hear from you.

Northern Art auctions are conducted regularly as part of our program of five annual Fine Art sales.
