Fine wines and spirits have become a recognised alternative investment class - assets that could appreciate in value while providing great pleasure to their owners. The auction room has become a favoured location for both the sale and purchase of wine and spirits and in recent years prices for old Scotch, Port and Cognac in particular have risen as the market broadens its international reach. Recent sales at Peter Wilson have included a bottle of McConnell’s Old Orkney Real Liqueur Whisky (closed 1928) at £2500 and D'Oliveiras Reserva Verdelho 1973 Madeira Port at £1100.
Classic wines from prominent vineyards and regions in Europe remain popular, and we’re also seeing a rise in interest in the best of New World wines.
Peter Wilson has also fostered a committed buying audience for the related filed of wine-related antiques from silver bottle labels and wine funnels to corkscrews and decanters.
We are now consigning for our Wines & Spirits sale on Thursday 19th July 2018, closing date 11th July.
